A mammogram is a specialised X-ray used to examine breast tissue and help detect any early changes. During the test, each breast is gently positioned between two plates so the tissue can be spread out for a clear image. You may feel some pressure, but it only lasts a few seconds and the scan itself is very quick. The procedure is safe and uses a low dose of radiation. Most appointments take only a few minutes, and the images are reviewed by a radiologist to assist your doctor in assessing your breast health.
